Our Story

The Beginning
In the heart of Northern Wisconsin's picturesque landscape, lies the close-knit community of Ladysmith. For generations, this town has thrived on the hard work and ingenuity of its residents, deeply rooted in agriculture, entrepreneurship and skilled trades. However, a quiet concern has been growing among some longtime residents who have witnessed a gradual drift – bright young minds seeking opportunities elsewhere and leaving behind a void in the very skills that built this community.
It began with conversations over dinner with neighbors and friends and earnest discussions after Sunday services. A shared conviction emerged: the need to cultivate local talent, to reignite a passion for the trades that are the lifeblood of Rusk county. This genuine interest blossomed into action as retired community business leaders and dedicated local residents united, fueled by a vision to empower the next generation.
The Dream
To establish a Christian school in Ladysmith which would become a beacon of opportunity for students in grades 7 through 12. This would be more than just a school; it would be a nurturing environment where faith and practical skills intertwine, preparing young people not only for future careers but for a life of purpose and contribution.
The curriculum would be designed to address the evolving needs of the community. Recognizing the strong agricultural heritage, students would gain hands-on experience in agriculture, horticulture, sustainable practices, and animal husbandry. Simultaneously, acknowledging the robust local industry, the school would offer comprehensive training in vital trades such as welding, mechanics, woodworking, and construction – skills consistently in demand within Rusk County and beyond.
Building Life Skills
Beyond specific trades, a unique and crucial element of this school would be its focus on homesteading and self-reliance. In an increasingly complex world, the ability to cultivate one's own food, manage resources responsibly, and possess practical life skills offers invaluable resilience and independence. These skills, once commonplace, are becoming increasingly rare, and this school aims to revive and instill them in its students.
The urgency of this vision becomes clearer when considering some of the realities of the rural educational landscape in the United States. While the public school system strives to serve a diverse student body, data from the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction hints at potential challenges in meeting the specific needs of all students, particularly those drawn to hands-on learning and vocational paths. Graduation rates and post-secondary enrollment figures as well as an increase in incarceration levels in Rusk County, indicate a need for more diverse pathways to success, especially for students who may not thrive in a purely academic setting. Moreover, anecdotal evidence from local businesses suggests a growing shortage of skilled tradespeople, impacting productivity and the future growth of many rural communities including Rusk County.
